Lucy is an artist.

Brian was recently out of town on a 2-week business trip. Sadly for me and Lucy, this trip coincided with a giant snow storm that made it impossible to spend much time outside, and also knocked out the cable (NO ELMO!). So, I had to put on my mommy thinking cap (which isn't shaped like a wine bottle, no matter what you've heard), and find some fun things for Lucy to do indoors.

We decided that we would make Brian a "Welcome Home" sign. Lucy had a great time ripping the paper and coloring. I am, as always, very thankful that crayons are non-toxic. By the time we were done with our project, there was a few small marks on the paper, but the crayons all looked like they'd fallen into the clutches of a rabid badger. I think the last picture here demonstrates very accurately Lucy's take no prisoners approach to coloring...our little crayon-eating warrior!

Lucy is a human snowball.

We got some snow today - maybe an inch or so. Since I had to leave work early because of the roads being so awful, I picked up Lucy a little early and she had a chance to get out and experience snow for the very first time. It was pretty funny. To be honest, I tried to convince her the snow boots were for her own good, but really they were for my amusement. Is there anything funnier than a clumsy toddler staggering through the snow in a pair of boots one size too big?

You might think I'm cruel, but you haven't been home alone with said toddler while her dad is on a 12-day business trip. To South America. Where IT'S SUMMER RIGHT NOW. But, whatever.

Anyway, these pictures chronicle fairly accurately Lucy's first foray into the snow...complete with temper tantrum when I forced her to come inside. The pictures cannot possibly portray how cold my fingers were after 3 minutes outside in 20-degree weather trying to work the camera. Do you see how I suffer for my art??

Lucy still loves the slide.

I apologize to Lucy's loyal fans (hi MOM!) for the light posting lately. Brian is out of the country and without an extra pair of hands, I rarely find myself able to grab the camera in time to capture anything on film. I could post a picture of a glass of wine sitting on top of one of Lucy's books, which I tend to use as coasters after she goes to bed, but I don't think any of you come here for that.

Never fear though, Brian will be back next Wednesday, just in time for Thanksgiving. After I take a restorative nap, by which I mean an extended coma, the blog will be back in full swing.

In the meantime, here is a picture of Lucy doing one of her favorite activities - going down the slide. The only thing that could make it better would be if it was taller, faster, twistier, and possibly covered in cats, Lucy's newest obsession.

Lucy has two new teeth. Also loves eggs.

Lately, feeding Lucy has been...a challenge. We're hoping that it IS actually possible for a child to survive on nothing but eggs, macaroni and cheese, and raspberries. We have a baby book that says you shouldn't feed toddlers more than three eggs a week. Right now we're using the book as a coaster for our wine glasses, and stuffing Lucy full of eggs like she's a mini-Cool Hand Luke.

In addition to Lucy's stellar grasp of table manners, you'll notice she FINALLY sprouted her two top front teeth. The good news? Yay teeth! The bad news? The Dietz gap-tooth grin has officially met the Purcell gap-tooth grin. We're like the Hillbilly Coalition all up in here.

Lucy is a camera hog.

I honestly can't remember when these pictures were taken, or what the circumstances surrounding them were. But, one thing is for sure...Lucy knows that when the camera comes out, all attention is on her. And that's a good thing.

Lucy is a bumblebee. Sorta.

Halloween can be divided into two parts: 1) You want me to wear WHAT?, and 2) OMG A KITTY CAT!

The first part of our evening went roughly like this:

Us: "Lucy! You're gonna be a bumblebee and bumblebees have WINGS and ANTENNAS!"
Lucy: "SAY WHAT?"
Us: "No, seriously! If you want to be a real bumblebee, you have to wear these super cute wings and this little antenna bopper headband! You're going to be SOOOOOOOO cute!"
Lucy: "Hahahaha. Yeah. No."

The end.

Halloween Part Deux.

Lucy sees cat. Lucy pets cat. Lucy goes Meow. Lucy tries repeatedly to run out cat door after cat. Cat wisely hides outside until sticky toddler leaves.

Lucy went to the zoo.

Lucy went to the zoo! I realize that we are WAY behind the times on this blog, and that the pictures are VERY fuzzy. What can I say? We've had lots of visits from friends and family, and the never-ending job of keeping Lucy entertained is, well...never-ending. Anyway, enjoy these pictures of Lucy at the zoo. Try not to hold the fuzziness against me, it's the camera...I SWEAR! I will try to get caught up on blogging in the days and weeks to come, but I make no promises.

Also, please note that Lucy is wearing her new backpack-leash. If you're the kind of person who thinks leashes on babies are cruel...well, we invite you to babysit and when you start to beg for the leash, we won't even point and laugh and say "I told you so!!"

Please note - Lucy is peering intently at the "worms at work." Given half a chance, I think she would have crawled in there for a better look. EWWWWWW!!
