Where is Lucy?

This first picture is of Lucy playing "hide and seek." As you can see, she is a very good hider - so good in fact that it's often impossible to see her. In this picture, she is cleverly disguised behind the ottoman and it took Brian and I *A REALLY LONG TIME* to find her. If she hadn't been giggling her face off, we may never have found her.

In other news, Lucy looooooooooooves to play with plastic hangers. I'm absolutely certain that this is, in fact, totally dangerous and SOMEONE COULD POKE AN EYE OUT. But, well, life is full of risks.

Lucy loves Elmo. Who knew?

We have tried to get Lucy interested in her Elmo book and her Elmo video, to no avail. We thought it would be great if she could watch an educational video while we sit with her, in between French class and toddler yoga. Just kidding, we want her to watch a video so we can take a shower in peace and quiet.

Today I brought her by my office to visit The Ladies, and Tina brought in a Tickle Me Elmo doll, much to Lucy's obvious and high-pitched delight. She immediately jumped on poor Elmo, wrestled him into a crossface chicken wing hold, and then beat him into submission. TRUE LOVE!

Look at that face...who me? Violent domination of fictional cartoon character dolls? NOOO!!

I have them all fooled! I will unleash my gummy diabolical plans and Elmo will be MINE!

Oh, is this Elmo? Yeah...he seems OK...whatever. I'm not that impressed, I definitely don't LOVE him or anything.

Lucy and Elmo (and a binky) sitting in a tree...K-I-S-S-I-N-G.

YOU WILL BOW TO MY WILL! SUBMIT!

Lucy is kind of cheesy. Literally.

Lucy ate some macaroni & cheese for lunch today at the babysitter's house. Well, at least that's the rumor. Based on the limited remaining evidence, I would be willing to bet that she ate some of it, but rubbed most of it in her hair. Please see Exhibit A:

We haven't told her yet that she's two standard deviations below the mean on tooth appearance. She's like the All Gums All The Time Channel. HEY LOOK GUYS! MY GUMS!

What? Is there something wrong with my hair? Hey? HEY? What aren't you telling me?

Happy Father's Day

We've come along way baby! From squishy little lovebug to Assistant Landscape Artist. I'm not 100% sure Brian knew what was in store for him with the whole "Daddy" gig...but it seems to have worked out pretty well. He and Lucy have a very unique relationship based almost entirely on raspberry noises and fart jokes, but I think it's safe to say there is true love going both ways.

I'm so proud of Brian's Daddy Skills (tm) - patience, a strong gag reflex, and the ability to find an endless game of "Where's The Binky?" completely absorbing and hilarious all make him pretty much the perfect dad.

So, Happy Father's Day and don't worry, I'm totally not jealous she said "DADA" first. Also, we should think about getting you a new shirt...heh.

Lucy can do it herself.

We have been feeding Lucy finger foods for a couple of months now - and of course, once she found out about a little thing called "blueberry waffles," she really had no use at all for baby food anymore. But...then, a problem. Finger foods require cutting into small pieces, which totally detracts from the whole "DIY" nature. So, the other night I threw caution to the wind and peeled a peach and then gave Lucy the whole darn thing.

SUCCESS! She coveted it in a way that would definitely be a violation of at least one of the 10 Commandments, and squealed in delight at a decibel level that surely killed several neighborhood dogs. The pictures really don't do the whole process justice, mostly because, due to my constant thievery and misuse of Lucy's food and toys, she now has trust issues.

Lucy loves (the taste of) electronics.

One of Lucy's favorite pastimes is trying to get to the cable box and DVR equipment so that she can push buttons at random and hopefully make it impossible to use. Of course, she hasn't really thought through this plan, because we (the parents) understand something she doesn't...once she renders the cable box inoperable, we won't care about it anymore - and she won't be able to break it AGAIN. Sigh.

Lucy trying desperately to get into Grandma and Grandpa Dietz's decorative backyard waterfall. Curses, foiled again.

We explain to Lucy that Grandpa Ron is a helicopter pilot, so when faced with which airport themed toy to play with, she was able to choose correctly. Good girl! ROTOR-LUCY!!!

Lucy's usual look - somewhere between suspicion and disbelief.

Lucy is a big girl.

Lucy really wants to be in charge of her own world. Or, more specifically, she doesn't want ME to be in charge of her world. In order to facilitate her newfound need for independence, I'm trying to let her eat and drink on her own without a lot of "help" from me. And be "help," I mean "torture." Anyway, Lucy has recently figured out the sippy cup, and she's taken to carrying it around with her everywhere. The best part is that although she can get the liquid in her mouth, she has a bit of a hard time actually getting it down her throat. So...yeah...you can find Lucy over there by the puddle. On the carpet. Of curdled milk.

PS: Don't mind the HUGE red mark on her face. I gave her the nail clippers, but instead of cutting her nails, she used them to clip through the propane line and then ate them. So, her nails are kind of long.

Lucy is on the can.

Lucy really wants to start walking, and she's doing great with her little cart at home. At Grandma and Grandpa's house, she really didn't have any of her fancy toys - but that didn't stop her for a minute. She grabbed an old empty holiday popcorn canister thing and went to town. This video is the first day she figured it out - and by the end of the weekend she was walking everywhere with it, steering it and everything.

Lucy is back from vacation.

For Memorial Day weekend, we went to Grants Pass, Oregon, to visit my parents...Grandma Linda and Grandpa Ron (as they are now known). We took TONS of pictures, of course, but I picked out a few that really symbolize what it means to get down to mom and dads's place.

First: The vast expanse. Our entire house can fit in their bathroom, and their backyard is big enough to house...well...I don't know. A circus? A runway? Anyway, it's REALLY big. And, good news! Lucy can crawl across the whole thing in 3.4 seconds to the waterfall (no really, a waterfall), where she immediately tries to prove the theory that you can drown in even the shallowest of pools. Here you can see Brian (thinking about bacon) and Lucy (thinking about breaking things) enjoying a sort of zen-like meditation in the huge backyard.

Second: The dog. Molly. Molly is decidedly indifferent to Lucy, and basically everyone except my dad. However, last time Molly met Lucy, Lucy wasn't eating (and dropping) food yet. They have, as of this weekend, reached a fragile peace - brokered almost entirely on Kix cereal and scrambled eggs. And, for the bonus plan, Lucy plants Kix in the fur on Molly's back for later excavation and discovery...SWEET!

Third: The swing. Grandpa Ron is what we like to call "a pushover." Brian is also a pushover, which means that Lucy knows A LOT of pushovers. And by "pushover," I mean "puts a swing up on the back porch just because the nearest infant swings are at a park across town and also makes sure it's pink." I also think Lucy has been promised (in no particular order): unicorn, rainbow, Oompa Loompa, Everlasting Binky, and possibly her very own helper monkey.

This is just a bonus picture. Lucy wanted to tell all her loyal readers "DADADADADABABABABABAAYIYIYIYIYIYIYI!!!!!!!!!"
