Lucy really wants to start walking, and she's doing great with her little cart at home. At Grandma and Grandpa's house, she really didn't have any of her fancy toys - but that didn't stop her for a minute. She grabbed an old empty holiday popcorn canister thing and went to town. This video is the first day she figured it out - and by the end of the weekend she was walking everywhere with it, steering it and everything.

Lucy is back from vacation.
For Memorial Day weekend, we went to Grants Pass, Oregon, to visit my parents...Grandma Linda and Grandpa Ron (as they are now known). We took TONS of pictures, of course, but I picked out a few that really symbolize what it means to get down to mom and dads's place.
First: The vast expanse. Our entire house can fit in their bathroom, and their backyard is big enough to house...well...I don't know. A circus? A runway? Anyway, it's REALLY big. And, good news! Lucy can crawl across the whole thing in 3.4 seconds to the waterfall (no really, a waterfall), where she immediately tries to prove the theory that you can drown in even the shallowest of pools. Here you can see Brian (thinking about bacon) and Lucy (thinking about breaking things) enjoying a sort of zen-like meditation in the huge backyard.

Second: The dog. Molly. Molly is decidedly indifferent to Lucy, and basically everyone except my dad. However, last time Molly met Lucy, Lucy wasn't eating (and dropping) food yet. They have, as of this weekend, reached a fragile peace - brokered almost entirely on Kix cereal and scrambled eggs. And, for the bonus plan, Lucy plants Kix in the fur on Molly's back for later excavation and discovery...SWEET!

Third: The swing. Grandpa Ron is what we like to call "a pushover." Brian is also a pushover, which means that Lucy knows A LOT of pushovers. And by "pushover," I mean "puts a swing up on the back porch just because the nearest infant swings are at a park across town and also makes sure it's pink." I also think Lucy has been promised (in no particular order): unicorn, rainbow, Oompa Loompa, Everlasting Binky, and possibly her very own helper monkey.

This is just a bonus picture. Lucy wanted to tell all her loyal readers "DADADADADABABABABABAAYIYIYIYIYIYIYI!!!!!!!!!"

Lucy has a green thumb
We've been trying to, sort of, de-jungle-fy our yard...and it's going...well, it's going. Anyway, I do NOT have a green thumb, but Brian actually does, and I am hoping Lucy does too. Maybe she'll be a botanist! Or, on HGTV!! Anyway, last weekend Brian got busy doing the weeding, and Lucy desperately wanted to help him. She's a really good weeder, even though she probably might maybe have eaten some of them. She seems fine though, so I don't think they were (all that) poisonous. Maybe they're organic? Who knows! We're environmentally friendly like that.

Lucy Lou Who
Lucy has quite a bit of hair, for...you know...a baby. But, it's fine and slippery and she's not really into product yet, so we haven't done much in the way of bows or barrettes. We got these little clips as a gift when she was first born, and today is the first day I was able to get one in and have it stay. So, here she is in all her glory (which, by the way, lasted for about 10 minutes)....Lucy Lou Who!!
PS: You will notice that in every picture she is giving me the Lucy Look 'o' Suspicion (tm).

Lucy the Explorer
Lucy loves to explore. And, by "explore," I mean "destroy." She's quite the Curious George and spends quite a bit of time trying to figure out the answers to complex and universal issues, such as "How many binky's can I get in my mouth at once?", and "Which page of this book have I NOT barfed on yet?". It's a full-time job, as I'm sure you can imagine. Anyway, here's some pictures of Lucy exploring/destroying her environment.
Lucy loves this book, which is called "Este No Es Mi Tractor," which means "That's Not My Tractor." Brian reads it to her all the time and she knows all the places on the pages to touch...each page has a different theme with a different texture to touch. So far, she much prefers fire trucks and tractors to cute and fuzzy bunnies. All in keeping with her Baby Destructor persona.

Here, Lucy isn't actively exploring or destroying, but I like to think of it as her "thinking phase." This is the planning stage wherein she surveys the room, taking into account the fragility of any given item as well as the proximity of Mommy and/or Daddy, and then springs into action accordingly.

This is Lucy's face 'o' destruction. You can pretty much imagine the noise that goes with this...something like "AYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIARRRRRRRGH". And then an evil laugh. And then...crunch.

These next few show a concerted effort by Lucy to get not one, not two...but three binky's under her control all at the same time. It's kind of hard to see, but there is one attached to her shirt, a blue one, and then a clear one. I literally watched her spend a half hour trying to figure this out - like the Sunday New York Times Crossword for Babies. Let's see...one in my left hand, one in my mouth...but wait, I need one hand to balance with. OK, one in right hand, one in left hand, sitting down...but wait, how do I get the other one in my mouth with both hands full? DRAT!

The cutest little shoe-eater in America.
Brian has a tendency to leave his shoes around the house in various places. Good thing for him, Lucy is like a truffle-sniffing pig, only for filthy shoes. And, instead of sniffing them and then alerting us, she puts them right in her mouth and silently chews until we realize it's BEEN TOO QUIET for TOO LONG and go hunting for her, only to find her happily gnawing on a giant leather shoe that's been...well...let's not think about it.
