Supersize Mother's Day Edition...

Wow - Mother's Day... . Last year, Brian gave me a book "signed" by Lucy, and a card, and none of it felt real because, well, I wasn't actually a mom yet. I mean...yes...I cared about Lucy already (so much that I gave up wine for 5 whole months...j/k...10 LOOOOOONG months), but she didn't seem real until she joined us in the Outside World. And so, now I'm her mom. And it's weird! Good and wonderful, but weird. She's such an interesting person, and she's just so...herself.

Being a mom makes me appreciate my own mom so much more. I love her, obviously, but man...I was a pretty good kid (I think!), and still...wow. So, I loaded up this post with Lucy pictures, which I know my mom loves. And, I think I should say "Thanks!" And, "You're a Saint". And, "I can't believe you did it without strangling me during, roughly, ages 13-20." Also, sorry about the grape kool-aid on the rug that I moved a lamp over to cover it up, and for stealing all your socks, and for...well...ages 13-20 (at least!).

Thanks for not killing me and for being the mostest besterest Mom ever! Now, on to the pictures.

This is Lucy's new move. I've tentatively named it the Lucy Purcell Underarm Binky Hold.

This is Lucy (you've all met her). That thing she's reaching for is a HUGE GROSS WORM. Thanks Daddy! He had to take it away because she tried to eat it. Sigh.

Your human barriers will never stop me from reaching the cable box...my precccciiioooouuusssss....

Oh hi!

I can haz cel fone?
This next series of three shows Lucy trucking along behind her little cart. Every once in a while, she just randomly stands up behind it and motors across the living room. After a few steps, she squats down as if to say, "Why can't a girl get a Diet Coke around here?"

Lucy doesn't need or want your help.

Again with the suspiciousness. I *almost* never snatch away her sippy cup and drink all the apple juice myself. Sheesh.

Lucy prefers the "shove and stuff" method of eating. The good news is ALL food is finger food.

There's a smile! I know you were all starting to think I had sucked the joy completely out of her life, what with my incessant food stealing and toy hiding. But, it turns out that life really is worth living, if only for the mini-waffles.

I just like this one. She seems to be asking with her eyes "Why did we just go through 3 months of mushed up peas when there were mini-waffles available THE WHOLE TIME??"

An assortment of Lucy being suspicious of us...

OK - in this one, Lucy is sleeping in her brand new big-girl carseat. I have no earthly idea how it is possible for anyone to sleep in this position - but somehow she manages. I think she might have rubberbands for neck vertebrae.

Upon arriving at our destination, I had to wake Lucy up - and that's where the suspicion comes in. As you can see, Lucy wishes I would just go away and let her nap in peace...because clearly it was so comfortable.
In this picture, not only is Lucy suspicious of both her parents for taking her out into the lovely Seattle spring weather, but she's extra suspicious of the weather itself, and possibly Brian since he's the one she's strapped to.

Even when we're inside, and even when she's not just waking up from a nap, Lucy is still suspicious of my motives. I might just be taking a picture of her playing, or, MORE LIKELY, I'm getting ready to take away her activity table forever and ever and put it somewhere she'll never, ever find. Because I do that all the time.

When we went to San Diego, Brian introduced Lucy to the ocean for the first time. You can't see her face, but trust me, she was VERY suspicious. It's a well known fact that fathers very often travel to San Diego to feed their babies to sharks...it happens ALL THE TIME.

Last but not least...a suspicion I can understand and even support. Lucy tasted Baby Borscht for the first time. Uncle Scott LOVES borscht, so we thought we'd give it a try, and Lucy was suspcious, yet pleasantly surprised. Pink pee, here we come!!

Despair Park

When the weather is nice (and, here I'm speaking in a strictly relative "Seattle" sense of the word "nice") we like to take Lucy to the playground. Today, since it was a balmy 50 degrees with 25mph winds, we thought it would be a great day to go to the dog park. Lucy normally enjoys the doggies, and there's a pretty nice playground there. So...as evidence of our neverending quest to make Lucy's life as miserable as possible - here's some pictures of her enjoying our day at the park.

But, lest you think that Lucy's life is one long parade of sadness, behold - the RUBBER DUCKY BABY SPA TUB!!!

Bonus: Lucy got new pajama's that say "Grrrrrr!" I spend approximately 600 hours trying to get one picture of her being all "Grrrrrrr"y in her new pj's. I think I'll have to keep trying - but at least she's cute! :)

More San Diego...

Lucy met Grandpa Frank's bulldog - Indy. The first thing she did was pull his face off, and he took it very well. I almost died from fear when Grandpa Frank said "Oh, he's never been around a baby before"....LUCY - STOP PULLING THE DOG'S FACE OFF!! But, it all went very well.

Indy has to stay outside because he needs to be in the cool shade, he gets very overheated easily. Lucy and he maintained their relationship through the glass though, so that was good.

Another thing Lucy decided on this trip is that she's very beautiful. The hotel had mirrored closet doors and Lucy took full advantage to kneel in front of them for at least an hour every day, admiring herself. Mirror, mirror on the wall...who's the awesomest baby of them all?? LUCY!!

What IS that orange-yellow ball in the sky?

Poor Lucy - I think this weekend in San Diego may have been her first taste of actual sunlight. We put her outside and let her play and crawl around and every time she looked at me, I would notice her white, white skin and the pink around her eyes. Note to self: get that kid out in the sun more often!! We took LOTS of pictures of the extended family, and I think I'll get to those later. First...Lucy in the sun. YAY!

The pre-San Diego picture round-up

Brian and Lucy and I are going to San Diego tomorrow for four days to meet and visit with Lucy's great-grandparents (Brian's paternal grandparents). We're all pretty excited, despite the fact that there have been earthquakes over the past week down there, and I'm home sick today with a stomach bug. Sigh.

Anyway, since I'm home, I decided to put up some pics from over the Easter holiday, a time period during which Grandma and Grandpa Dietz came to visit (YAY!), the whole family got together for a BBQ (YAY!), and Lucy got her first TWO black eyes (BOO!).

I like this picture because, when left to her own crawling devices, Lucy went straight for the Diet Coke. ATTA GIRL!

Lucy (looking like she just got left a prize fight or something), and Grandma Linda (looking beautiful with a big smile and a new haircut).

A new toy! This little car can either be ridden on and pushed with your feet, or it folds out into a little walker type thing (which we haven't tried yet). So far, Lucy is very impressed, as am I. She's all smiles and can already push herself backwards, which hopefully will at least keep her from hitting anything else with the FRONT of her face.

Pineapple Upside Down Baby!!! Lucy has recently discovered that she loves to hang upside down. Now we just have to find a way to keep the formula and baby food where it belongs. Ick.

We'll be back on Monday with pictures from San Diego, hopefully at least a few of them showing the sun (I hope I recognize it when and if I see it!).
