She's a maniac, a maniac on the floor!

Lucy decided to break out her legwarmers today and spend some time on her favorite activity - chasing the purple hippo above her Gymini mat. One day she will be able to grab that hippo with some degree of regularity, and honestly, it will be the proudest day of my life. We haven't thought of a name for the purple hippo yet, but I feel like we should since they will likely end up married someday - Lucy's love for Mr. Hippo is that true!! Oh well, as long as he treats her well, I guess I don't have a problem with it. Of course, he'll have to get through Brian first.

She comes by it honestly!

Brian and I have been anxiously awaiting the new season of TV shows...it was a LONG, BORING summer (with regard to TV shows - frankly, it was a little too exciting in a whole variety of other ways - Mom...I'm looking at you!). Anyway, here are Brian and Lucy enjoying the new season of Dancing with the Stars (sorry to sell you out Brian). I think Lucy is particularly enamored with Mark from Iron Chef America. She also told me she hopes Macy Gray gets voted off first - she's annoying, even to an almost 8-week old.

BONUS! Lucy smiling while she sleeps taken from super close range by me.

She has middle-management written all over her.

Like her mother, Lucy is a born supervisor of all things yard work related. Brian and I have a HUGE apple tree in the front yard, which is very beautiful, but drops a metric ton of apples on our front yard every couple days. All night long we hear these tiny, half-rotten, totally non-edible (ie: useless) apples drop on our roof then roll off gently into huge piles in our front yard. It's great...sigh. And, to everyone who has ever suggested we eat/juice/ferment these apples - feel free to come over and remove as many as you think you need. No, really.

Lucy is highly amused.

This might be a video best described as "Only a Grandparent Could Love It"...so...you were warned. We bought Lucy something called a Gymini. For those of you not in the know on ridiculous baby items, this is just a mat she lays on with little arches over her head from which hang little toys and rattles and whatnot. Oh, and a kick plate that lights up and plays songs when she kicks it, which she does often because she happens to be relatively uncoordinated, poor thing. She does kick extraordinarily hard though, so this could be just the thing to make her feel like all that kicking is doing her some good.

On another note, we took Lucy to go get a bagel this morning (well, technically only we ate bagels, she snoozed in her carseat), and there were several other babies at the bagel shop. We struck up a conversation with the mommy nearest us who had a tiny little baby boy all wrapped up and sleeping in his carseat. They asked us how old Lucy is and I said seven and a half weeks, and much to my dismay their baby was TWO WHOLE WEEKS older than her. I swear to you that if she put her mind to it, Lucy could have swallowed that baby whole. Our daughter is obviously a bruiser...on the upside we won't have to worry about her being bullied I guess, and maybe she'll be able to open her own pickle jars with her sure-to-be enormous forearms.

The many faces of Lucy

Lucy had a photo shoot this week so we could get a decent picture for her birth announcements. I know she was born 7 weeks ago, but...well...what can I say? So, anyway, here are some of the very cute pictures that didn't make the cut, which just goes to show you how awesome the winning picture must be, right?? I can say with a pretty decent degree of authority that most people who read this blog are probably getting an announcement, but I will post a copy of it in a couple weeks after it comes out just in case.

Other than photo shoots, Lucy has been very busy learning how to smile. She does it all the time now, and I can't help but feel like it's a silent reinforcement that I'm not doing half-bad at this mommy thing. She's also been enjoying my vocal stylings with fab-yoo-less renditions of popular kid's songs such as "The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round and Round and I Don't Remember The Rest of the Words" and "Does the Itsy Bitsy Spider Go Up or Down the Water Spout???" She's so lucky!

Lucy finally met Grandma and Grandpa...yay!

We took Lucy to Grants Pass over Labor Day weekend (and the whole next week) to meet Grandma and Grandpa Dietz. Lucy was very impressed with Grandpa's superb baby spinning classes (video soon), and Grandma's progress since her stroke in May. In fact, Grandma is doing so well that Lucy decided to place her bets with the girl's team for Wii Bowling...a bet that definitely paid off in lots of girl power domination at the Wii Lanes!! We did lots of fun stuff over the course of the week, and of course I took a million pictures. I will put up more later, but for now, I thought I'd stick with pictures of Lucy with Grandma and Grandpa and this top one, which is Lucy and I in Grandma and Grandpa's backyard, in front of their waterfall.
