The waiting is the hardest part....

We're in the middle of a massive heatwave here. It's in the 90's, and there is no air-conditioning to be found anywhere...especially in our house. Brian's mom did let us borrow a window unit, and it is definitely chugging away, but I don't think it is prepared to deal with this kind of heat.

I am 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I am huge. Roughly the size of a Mack truck. No, really.

We are scheduled for an induction on Thursday, July 30th, at 7am. I truly wish Lucy would decide to come on her own before then for many reasons, not the least of which is that the hospital is air-conditioned. But, given that she seems quite content to remain inside me pretty much forever (ie: my due date is this week and I haven't dropped yet), and the fact that I was about 2 weeks late myself...I would say I am genetically predisposed to being pregnant with this little I'm-in-no-hurry-at-all baby.

So, we will update this website with baby details and hopefully some pictures once she gets here - which should be sometime Thursday or Friday depending on how resistant to the induction process she is. Knowing both her parents like I do (haha), I'm counting on her to be extra stubborn.

Lucy loves art.

(First off, I apologize for the terrible pictures...digital camera handling is not my forte apparently).

When we were selecting artwork for the walls in Lucy's nursery, I was really sure I wanted something I actually liked and that I might use later in another room, or my office, or somewhere. Thanks to 20x200, I was able to get these three pictures over the course of the past year or so that I love. I know they may not be for everyone, but they are colorful and abstract and fun, and I think they are perfect for the nursery. We have purposely stayed away from themes and anything overly princess-y or girly since...well...we still have to live here too. So, now Lucy has her very own limited edition artwork, all for the low, low price of $20 a pop.

If she's anything like me, it's only a matter of time before her entire room is plastered with unicorns and rainbows and all things sparkly and pink. It takes a lifetime to refine taste like that!

A somewhat random update on our life.

Here is Lucy's new co-sleeper. Essentially it is a bassinet that is attached to the side of the bed, like a "side-car". It attaches via these long straps, between the mattress and the box spring, to the opposite side board. Anyway, we plan to have Lucy is our room for a little while to cut down on the midnight trips across the house for visits to the milk bar.

37 weeks and 2 days. 'Nuff said.

My mom LOVES black and white cows and has about a million of them around her house. We bought this for Lucy so that she can start to bond with Grandma Linda right off the bat. Although my mom won't be here for Lucy's big entrance, we plan to introduce them just as soon as Lucy is ready for the big drive to Grants Pass, Oregon.

This is Brian and I at his friend's 4th of July party. His friend's house has a gorgeous view of Puget Sound. Too bad I am approximately the size of a small planet and it was very hot that day - we did not make it to the fireworks. But, we did hear them from our bedroom, where we were snoozing away by 10pm. I am truly the life of the party these days!!

Hurry up and wait.

We had our doctor appointment this morning. Lucy is doing great, she loves to kick the doppler whenever they try to measure her heartbeat. She's feisty! I am doing...uh...about the same. I'm a TINY bit more dilated, and other than that, the same as last week. Sigh. I was seriously hoping to have made some progress, but I guess this is just Lucy's way of letting us know we're all on her schedule from now on.

We got some new fun baby things this week, and took some more pictures of my huge belly...I will make every effort to get those downloaded and posted in the next couple days. We've been pretty busy.

Making progress

Well, Lucy and I saw the doctor yesterday. She says I am 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. She also said she thinks we'll see Lucy "sooner rather than later". Of course, everyone I know keeps pointing out that you can walk around 1cm dilated for, like, a month. So...I guess we'll see. Brian and I are starting to feel like it's time to finish up all those last minute things though. I think we'll be putting together a few last little baby items this weekend, packing my hospital bag, and getting the house in order. We're also going to a 4th of July party at Brian's coworker's house, which should be fun. It's been in the mid-80's here, and without air conditioning, I'm pretty much hiding in whatever the coolest room of the house is at any given moment.

We will definitely keep everyone informed as to our progress (or lack thereof). I will definitely not be allowed to go past 39 weeks because of my blood pressure, so we have 3 weeks left - absolute maximum. Yikes!

In non-baby news - my mom comes home today! WELCOME HOME!!
